This asymmetry—where proprietary systems grab headlines while open alternatives quietly solve real problems—represents a fundamental shift in how AI tooling will evolve.

For years, the narrative around AI capabilities followed a predictable script: bigger models, more parameters, longer training times, inevitable moats.
